Ransomware is a small shop problem

People still think ransomware is for hospitals and pipelines. The data says the opposite. When a small business gets breached, ransomware is in the mix far more often than it is at a large firm. Plenty of shops never reopen.

You do not need a security department. You need three habits. Backups that are not sitting on the same computer. A way to get email and files back without paying anyone. And one person who knows how to say no when a “client” emails a link that feels off.

If you cannot restore last week’s invoices without the live machine, you do not have a backup. You have a copy waiting to be encrypted with everything else.

Test a restore on a Saturday. It is dull work. It is also the difference between a bad week and a closed door.
